The Iran War - All Roads Lead to the CCP

Dr. Li-Meng Yan engages with me, Edward Haugland, in an in-depth discussion of the Iran war. Dr. Yan’s weekly show is well worth listening to. I’ve engaged with her multiple times over the last three years as she gives great insights into the CCP and their efforts in this ongoing #CognitiveWar.

As a physician and virologist who has spent years studying respiratory viruses, I watch the current global scramble and feel a deep alarm. The pandemic taught us that pathogens do not respect borders. What followed taught us that geopolitics and supply chains can be weaponized. Critical minerals and microelectronics underpin vaccines, diagnostics, and biosafety equipment. When those flows are concentrated in one place, we trade cheap goods for fragile security. We also learned that information is now as dangerous as an agent in a vial.

Israel and US sources have also confirmed that Iran is producing domestic missiles with chemical and biological warheads. And we know that especially when we talk about biological things, biological weapons, we know who’s behind Iran because I really don’t think Iran has this virologist or the microbiologist and labs, P3, P4 to produce these things, and behind that, like the uranium is supplied by the CCP.

Campaigns to shape public opinion can cripple outbreak response, erode trust in vaccines, and hide risky research. Foreign influence operations seek to steer policy and obscure accountability. That matters for public health because secrecy breeds errors and errors breed outbreaks.

Policymakers have tools beyond tariffs. Economic pressure can be effective when it is paired with hard resilience measures. We must rebuild domestic manufacturing for medicines, reagents, and personal protective equipment. We must harden laboratory oversight and require transparent reporting of high-risk work. We must close legal and regulatory loopholes that allow dangerous materials and know-how to flow into shadow networks.

Equally urgent is a global biosurveillance system that is independent, rapid, and trusted. Science diplomacy must be rebuilt so that laboratories share samples and protocols, not cover-ups. An honest information campaign can inoculate populations against disinformation and encourage cooperation.

This is not a call to panic. It is a call to wake up. National security now includes public health. We can choose to fortify our defenses, demand accountability, and restore trust in institutions. Or we can keep outsourcing our safety for short-term gain. I know which future I want for my patients and for the next generation. We must act with speed and moral clarity. Institutions must be held accountable, and leaders must be brave.
