CCP Targets Us wiretap systems- The Voice of Dr Yan with Ed Haugland

On Oct 5, The Wall Street Journal reported that for several months or longer, a cyberattack tied to the Chinese government breached the networks of a swath of internet service providers in the US, including Verizon Communications, AT&T, and Lumen Technologies. The hacker group named Salt Typhoon appears to have engaged in capturing vast network traffic and was looking for sensitive information. Though the investigation is ongoing, the U.S. government considers the intrusions to be historically significant and worrisome. According to the CCP’s tactics, “facing decoupling, one of the CCP’s main countermeasures is to leverage local cooperation and policy formulation at the state level to continue the unrestricted warfare against the US.” CCP prefers the “California Model” of Sino-US subnational diplomacy (https://www.americaoutloud.news/is-ca-governor-newsom-the-best-choice-as-ccps-new-kissinger/).

The goal is to poison and destroy American society using Communism, Maoism, and Xi’s Thoughts. For example, as Col. Lawrence Sellin posted on X, on Nov 2, 2023, “Roundtable on China-US subnational legislatures corporation” was held in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, China. (https://local.cctv.com/2023/11/03/ARTIyBMZDcMI0X3bP8KneTOU231103.shtml)

This conference was organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, which is directed by CCP’s United Front Work Department; the Standing Committee of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Congress, which is under the direct leadership of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee with the same director; as well as the State Legislative Leaders Foundation in the US. CCP’s officials from Beijing and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, leaders of the U.S. Congresses of Delaware, Georgia, Alabama, and California, and U.S. state legislative leaders Representatives of the foundation attended the roundtable themed “Coping with Climate Change Together.”

This is a manifestation of the continuation of the CCP’s unrestricted war strategy aiming at down-ballot candidates in the US. In 2015, Xi Jinping gave a speech at the 3rd US-China Governors Forum, praising “all provincial and state leaders for their long-term active efforts in promoting the development of Sino-US relations.” In response, heads of provinces and states from China and the US also expressed their willingness to promote the in-depth development of Sino-US relations through close local cooperation. On Oct 3, Nikkei Asia reported that “a wave of misleading videos aimed at stirring up sentiment for the independence of Japan’s southernmost prefecture, Okinawa, has been spreading across social media, with nearly 200 inauthentic [Chinese] accounts identified as key drivers. While the videos themselves were all fabricated, their virality is real. Posts featuring the videos apparently racked up over 7 million engagements on X alone.” (https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Cybersecurity/Social-media-fuel-pro-Okinawa-independence-disinformation-blitz)

It’s CCP’s Unrestricted Warfare tactics against Japan. CCP leverages the local people in Okinawa, using false historical narratives and nationalism to advocate for “peaceful independence.” Finally, the CCP will gain control of the Japanese territory. In July 2023, China’s People’s Daily published “Why did the Governor of Okinawa go to Tongzhou to worship during his visit to China? There is a painful history of Ryukyu behind it”, falsely claiming that “(Japan’s” Abolition of the Ryukyu Kingdom and establishment as Okinawa Prefecture is completely illegal.” (https://www.peopleapp.com/column/30035349037-500000401664) It shows the CCP’s preparations for the Okinawa issue. The same tactics are applied by CCP in Hawaii, Canadian Arctic areas, and other areas.

In this episode, my guest, Edward Haugland, shares his thoughts and expertise on the recent topics involving US wiretap systems and down-ballot candidates targeted by CCP. What are the most impressive points in each topic? What suggestions or countermeasures in national security would we have regarding the related investigations or policy-making?
