China’s new methodology warfare; Understanding the cognitive war

In this episode, Dr. Li-Meng Yan continues our dialogue on China’s Unrestricted Warfare but with a focus on their efforts in new methodology warfare as detailed in Chapter 5 of Unrestricted Warfare. These discussions are part of an ongoing series where we try to provide a strategic perspective, assessments, analysis, and insights to provide a deeper understanding of the importance of Unrestricted Warfare and how the CCP uses ideology, religion, and issues as ways to fulfill their strategy.

We engage with her on her weekly program – The Voice of Dr. Yan,” and her on the National Security Hour. Both programs are part of the America Out Loud Talk Radio Network.

Last year, we covered a lot of ground related to China and the Cognitive War. This year, we will continue to expand their efforts in Unrestricted Warfare as it relates to the ongoing global and domestic Cognitive War we are fighting.

Today, we continue by looking specifically at Chapter 5 of Unrestricted Warfare – New Methodology of War Games. It is important to understand that Unrestricted Warfare was written over a quarter century ago, and China has been implementing this ever since. This is especially critical to understand, as the hair on your neck will begin to rise as you hear our discussions and start to realize how far China has gone in implementing this methodology here in our own USA!

Dr. Yan and I focus on three broad questions in discussing the theory put forth in Unrestricted Warfare and its actual application, which I contend our national security apparatus is missing totally:

  1. What do you see as recent examples in the application of this type of unrestricted warfare?
    • A key element of the new methodology is combinations of threats, primarily non-military by proxies and other non-state actors combined with technology.
  1. Can you give us your perspective on this, focusing on your expertise in biological and other such weapons?
    • A key objective of this type of warfare is to collapse the old concepts of national security and military.
  1. How effective is China in applying the new methodology against the USA?
    • The authors note our militaries focus on kinetics, their lack of creative thinking, understanding of cognitive warfare, and our tendency to operate as “Titanium Cylinders of Sub-Excellence” – I cover the cultural and structural weaknesses and lack of understanding and preparation in my book – The Cognitive War – Why We Are Losing and How We can Win?
